You also want to make certain that the seat is large enough to be comfortable as well. You should look for an office chair that has arm rests, which can support your arms while you type, preventing shoulder and neck strain, as well as a chair that can swivel. When you get the chair home, take the time to read the instruction manual that comes with it, and if the chair isn’t to your liking, or if you find some kind of defect, return it immediately for exchange or refund. The longer you keep the chair, the less likely you will be able to return it.

Remember, that not all chairs are designed to be one size fits all, so it is a good idea to try the chair out in the store before making a final decision. If you aren’t able to actually sit in the chair in the store, make certain that you find out about the refund policy, in case you don’t like the chair once you get it home. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that just because you have an ergonomic office chair that you can sit slumped in front of the computer all day and not experience any kind of back or neck pain. You still should pay attention to good posture, and sit with your feet flat on the floor, to avoid strain or injury.

There are many office chairs now being produced that are designed to work well for people who already have back injury or strain. These chairs offer new positions that can limit stress on already bothersome areas, while still allowing the person to work effectively.

If you sit at a desk for any length of time, whether at work or at home, you could greatly benefit from an ergonomic office chair. You may not experience any problems now, but keep sitting in a badly designed chair, and see just how long it takes for that back and neck pain to start, and then you will wish that you had made the switch long ago!
